  • Preconception --working--

After so many failed experiments I finally have the TV fully working, using the magic of rare projection (with mirrors and whatnot) the TV can display an image that looks great (for an old TV) so as of now the TV fully functions as originally intended, very happy with it.

  • Phone Visuals : TIME : A Reflective Analysis

    Szilárd 1:46 pm on October 27, 2009 | 0 Permalink | Reply

Here is some of the visuals (without sound) that will be controlled by the phone, this has a topic of “time”.

After doing some research on our perception of time, i have come across some interesting findings, from those I have started thinking about what exactly time means to me while also thinking about how we would see time if we would not have devices/tools such as clocks and calendars.

Through these various gathered information and also through having talks with people I know, I came to my understanding that our perception of time is based on “change”.

“Everything changes, nothing stays the same” is how we as humans perceive time, if everything stayed the same, there would be no time. People change as they get older, environments change through time, day goes to dark, and through looking at how fast theses things change around us we are able to perceive time and are  able to measure the distance between one point in time to another.

These visuals are inspired by those above findings, examining changes from second to second.

    ————————

i stuck to the original timeline pretty well, the only place I fell behind is developing visuals for the phone (this was caused by the TV needing more time then originally planned), which i should have done by this weekend.

  • Inside the Television

Here are some interior shots of the television after it has been wired up to the arduino, if you look at previous shots you can see what the television looked like before being wired up.

    Brown cables = ground

    Black cables = Inputs

White Cable = 5 Volts Power

Also note that I had the TV’s LED lights hooked up to the arduinos, which seem to have blown since they no longer want to operate, which is too bad since I spent alot of time wiring those up.

  • Working Phone

As seen in the alpha hand-in,  like the TV, the phone is fully functional and works with an arduino board connected to a computer. Here is an example of how it operates, the visuals and sound will be different for the final hand-in of this project.

  • phone and TV firmware

The TV and the telephone both run on a patch I developed on MAX MSP, currently the patches are both working really well and does not seem to break after time, which is excellent in an installation situation where they need to be functional all day.

The patches are both currently a mess, and will be cleaned up so hopefully I am not needed to set it up.

From reading the book the most interesting aspect for me was the comparison between humans and animals especially when it comes to various behavior patterns, which just proves that somethings we humans do just unconsciously or without will that may seem odd, but yet we base and shape our society around those things (marriage, greed, war…). almost like we seem so in-control of how humanity and society is formed and shaped but yet we have no to very little control since human nature is impossible to change.

Here are some visuals I have been developing for the final installation, these visuals will be somewhat interactive and are based on the 2 visual presidents I have chosen Bill Viola and Varese Edgard (works shown in previous posts)
